Abeka Academy Tuition & Review (2026–27): Costs, Accreditation, Options

Abeka Academy tuition and review 2026–27

Abeka Academy tuition is set per grade and per option rather than as one flat fee. The official comparison chart gives $1,399 for a full year of 5th grade in the accredited program, with books and video lessons, no application fee and no administrative fee. On the 10-month payment plan, the official pricing page lists accredited “Video & Books” at $98.40 a month for K5, $148.40 a month for grades 1–6, $175.40 for grades 7–8 and $188.40 for grades 9–12 (US dollars, before sales tax; abeka.com, checked 6 October 2026). The video-only option, where you buy the books separately, costs less: $77.40 to $138.40 a month in the accredited program. The pricing page has no school-year label, so read these as the prices currently charged for 2026–27 enrolments.

If you searched “Abeka Academy tuition” or “Abeka Academy review”, you probably want a clear total, a plain explanation of what “accredited” adds, and an honest idea of what a school day looks like with recorded video lessons. This page goes through all of that using Abeka’s own pages: every fee, the refund rules, how the diploma works and what families outside the US should know. It then compares Abeka Academy fairly with Oak Meadow, The Keystone School and NIJIN GLOBAL ACADEMY, a different kind of online school that opens in 2027.

The short answer: who Abeka Academy suits — and who it doesn’t

  • Suits: Christian homeschooling families who want a curriculum with daily Bible teaching and an openly biblical worldview. Abeka describes its mission as providing Pre-K–12 resources “based upon biblical values”.
  • Suits: parents who want someone else to do the teaching. Abeka Academy lessons are recorded in real classrooms with experienced teachers, and the parent supervises using a step-by-step video manual.
  • Suits: families who want an accredited record (report cards, transcripts and, in high school, a diploma) at a cost close to a curriculum purchase. Abeka Academy is accredited by FACCS and MSA CESS.
  • Suits: families who need a flexible calendar. You choose any start date, the plan runs over 10 months, and you have 12 months to finish.
  • May not suit: families who want live classes, real-time discussion with a teacher, or small-group interaction. Lessons are prerecorded, and help comes by phone, chat and email during US Central business hours.
  • May not suit: families who want a secular or faith-neutral curriculum. Bible is a core subject, and science is taught from a creationist position that Abeka states openly.
  • May not suit: children still learning English. All lessons are in English, and the official pages do not mention English-language support.

What Abeka Academy is

Abeka is a Christian curriculum publisher based in Pensacola, Florida, best known for its printed textbooks, which are used by Christian schools and homeschoolers. Its site says it has offered “excellence in education from a Christian perspective since 1972”, and its pages carry a Pensacola Christian College copyright. Abeka Academy is its video homeschool program. Children watch recorded lessons taught in a real classroom, which Abeka calls “master teachers”, work through the matching textbooks at home, and take quizzes and tests. The FACCS accreditor directory lists Abeka Academy as established in 1975.

The same videos come in two versions. Accredited (the Abeka Academy enrolment) adds record keeping, due dates, report cards, official transcripts, one free standardized test per enrolment year and, for seniors who meet the requirements, a diploma. Video Instruction (unaccredited) gives the same lessons and materials, with begin and end dates but no due dates and no official records. Each version is sold as “Video & Books” or “Video” only.

Abeka Academy tuition and fees (2026–27, official)

The official Abeka Academy pricing page prints prices as 10-month payment plan amounts. It also offers a 6-month plan and payment in full. The full-grade prices for grades 7–12 include 6 credits. A 7th credit costs $275 extra with Video & Books, or $200 extra with Video only.

What the monthly figures mean over a year. Ten payments of $148.40 come to $1,484 for an accredited grade 1–6 year with books. That is $85 more than the $1,399 the official comparison chart gives for 5th grade. The official payment plan page says the 10-month plan carries an $85 participation fee (the 6-month plan carries $50), which applies to orders of $350 or more and is charged once per order, however many children are on it. The comparison chart also prints a “Total” of $1,442 for the same 5th-grade example, even though it lists no application or administrative fee. The difference is not explained on the page, so confirm the checkout total. Pay-in-full prices for each grade are not printed on the pricing page. Apart from the 5th-grade example, they are not published on the official site and appear at checkout.

Single subjects. Single-subject videos are available for grades 1–6 in Language Arts, Arithmetic, History, Science and Bible, and for grades 7–12 by course. Examples from the pricing page: grades 1–6 Language Arts with books $72.50 a month; Arithmetic, History or Science with books $57.50 a month; Bible $100; a full-year grade 9–12 course with books $77.40 a month accredited or $71.40 unaccredited. These are also 10-month plan figures.

Extra fees listed on the official site:

  • State and local sales tax, calculated on the Book Kit Value.
  • Switching or adding courses within 31–60 days of the begin date costs $50 plus any materials deposit. Switching is not available after 60 days.
  • Late work (accredited): $20 for each grading period submitted more than two weeks late.
  • Extensions after the end date: $40 a month (K4–K5 and single-subject video) or $75 a month (grades 1–12). Work received more than six months after the end date is not evaluated.
  • DVD rentals carry a media fee that is not included in the listed prices. The amount is not published on the official site.
  • Shipping is free within the US, Canada and US protectorates. International shipping is quoted after enrolment, and customs and duty fees are paid by the customer.

Discounts and aid. A 5% military discount is available to US active-duty service members, reservists, veterans and retirees, verified through ID.me. The official discounts page lists seasonal promo codes. On 6 October 2026 a 15% discount on Abeka Academy math and financial-literacy video lessons (code MATH26) was running until 13 November 2026, while an earlier 20% enrolment code had expired on 4 September 2026. A per-child sibling discount and need-based financial aid are not published on the official site.

Refunds. There is a 30-day money-back guarantee from the assigned begin date if all video materials are returned. Between 30 and 60 days, a 10% cancellation fee applies; between 60 and 90 days, 25%; after 90 days, no credit is given. Partial returns are not accepted.

A worked total, using only official numbers. Take two children in grades 1–6, both in the accredited Video & Books program for four years. The pricing page gives grades 1–6 the same price, so the comparison chart’s $1,399 applies to each. That makes 2 × $1,399 = $2,798 a year, and $2,798 × 4 = $11,192 over four years, before sales tax and assuming prices stay the same. If instead you pay each child on a separate 10-month plan, it is 2 × $1,484 = $2,968 a year. How a school day works: schedule, live classes and time zones

An Abeka Academy day is built around recorded lessons. Your child watches the day’s classes for each subject, filmed in a real classroom with the teacher talking to the students in the room, and then does the matching seatwork, quizzes and tests from the books. A parent dashboard loads the schedule, lessons, tests and due dates automatically. The video manual tells the parent what to do and in what order. Grades 7–12 have digital assessments. Each grade has 170 days of lessons, scheduled to finish 10 months after your start date, with 12 months allowed.

  • Live classes: none. All lessons are prerecorded, so the program works in any time zone.
  • Due dates (accredited): every six weeks in K–3, and quarterly in grades 4–12.
  • Help: academic assistance by phone Monday to Friday, 8 a.m.–4:45 p.m. US Central time. Abeka also lists phone, chat and email support.
  • Format: streaming, or DVD for families with limited internet. Abeka offers an online bandwidth tester.

For families in Asia or Oceania, recorded lessons are an advantage, because nothing needs to be watched at a US time. The trade-off is support: phone help during US Central business hours falls at night in much of Asia. If you are weighing recorded lessons against live ones, our explainer on how a day at an online international school works describes both.

Accreditation, diploma and college recognition

Abeka’s FAQ states that the Abeka Academy accredited program has Full Accreditation from the Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (FACCS). Through FACCS it has national and state recognition linked to the National Council of Private School Accreditation (NCPSA) and the Florida Association of Academic Nonpublic Schools. Abeka Academy is also accredited by the Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA CESS). The FACCS school directory lists the “Abeka Academy Accredited Distance Learning Program” as fully accredited and co-accredited with Middle States (checked 6 October 2026).

Diploma requirements (official graduation page): 24 credits in total, at least 4 of them earned through the Abeka Academy accredited program in grade 12, all coursework validated, and the account paid in full. Accredited students use high school code 101388 for the ACT and SAT. Graduation activities take place on the Pensacola Christian College campus, and Abeka also lists a virtual graduation event. To take part in the in-person 2027 ceremony, a senior needs a full-year grade 12 enrolment with a begin date on or before 20 November 2026.

The Video Instruction option is not accredited: no report cards, transcripts or diploma. Abeka also links to online dual enrolment with Pensacola Christian College for high school students. College acceptance figures and lists of colleges graduates attend are not published on the official site.

Reviews and common concerns, answered honestly

“Is it too much screen time and seatwork?”

Some parents praise the structure, while others find the days long, especially in the younger grades, where a full set of classroom videos fills much of the morning. The pace follows a real classroom, and the 12-month window and any-day start give you some room. Abeka publishes sample video lessons, so you can judge the pace with your child before buying, and the 30-day money-back guarantee gives you a trial period.

“Will my child miss real interaction with a teacher?”

Possibly. The teacher on screen is talking to the class in the room, not to your child, and there are no live classes. Abeka’s answer is academic assistance by phone, chat and email. Children who learn best through discussion may want live sessions or outside activities as well.

“How strongly religious is the content?”

Very clearly Christian, by design. Bible is a daily core subject. Abeka’s published statement of faith includes creation in six literal days and a rejection of the theory of evolution, and its science teaching follows that position. Many families choose Abeka for exactly this reason. Families who want a neutral curriculum should read the official statement before enrolling.

“Is the accreditation recognised?”

Abeka Academy holds FACCS Full Accreditation and MSA CESS accreditation, and it has a high school code for college-admission tests. As with any private school, each college or school district makes its own decision about credits. If your child might move into a public school or apply to specific universities, ask them directly. Only the accredited option produces official transcripts.

“What happens if we need to stop?”

The cancellation rules are strict but clearly published. You get a full refund within 30 days, minus 10% between 30 and 60 days, minus 25% between 60 and 90 days, and nothing after that. You must return all video materials, and on a payment plan you remain responsible for charges until they are returned. Decide in the first month.

“Can we use it from outside the US?”

Yes. The pricing page describes an International Enrollment Agreement with 2–3 weeks of processing, shipping options quoted after enrolment, and customs and duties paid by the family. It recommends enrolling from March 1 for a fall start. English-language support for non-native speakers is not published on the official site.

Alternatives to Abeka Academy worth comparing

1. Oak Meadow. A NEASC-accredited distance-learning school with a gentle, Waldorf-inspired, book-based curriculum. It has no live classes either, and a teacher gives written feedback on your child’s work. It is non-religious and costs more than Abeka for enrolled students.

2. The Keystone School. An accredited online school (Cognia and MSA-CESS) where you buy courses one at a time, which suits families who want a secular US course catalogue, credit recovery or part-time enrolment. Note its published list of countries it does not accept enrolments from.

3. NIJIN GLOBAL ACADEMY (NGA). A different kind of option: an online international school for ages 6–18, focused on Asia and Oceania, opening in September 2027 (planned). Classes are small live dialogue groups of about 8, subjects are taught in English with a bilingual (English–Japanese) mentor, English levels are based on CEFR, and students work on social projects with companies and governments. There is no entrance exam and no English requirement. NGA can run alongside a local school or as the main school. Tuition is not yet published, but it is designed to be far more affordable than a typical international school, with no enrolment, facility or uniform fees. To be clear: NGA is not yet accredited and has no graduates, and its timetable is built for Asia and Oceania daytime, so families in the Americas or Europe should check live class times against their local time. Free trial classes run monthly from September 2026.

FAQ

How much does Abeka Academy cost per year?

The official comparison chart gives $1,399 for a full accredited 5th-grade year with books. On the 10-month plan, accredited Video & Books is $98.40 (K5) to $188.40 (grades 9–12) a month before sales tax, so $1,484 a year for grades 1–6 on that plan. Video-only and unaccredited options cost less.

Is Abeka Academy accredited?

Yes, the accredited program is. It holds Full Accreditation from FACCS and accreditation from MSA CESS, and the FACCS directory confirms the listing. The cheaper Video Instruction option is not accredited and does not issue transcripts or a diploma.

Can international students enrol in Abeka Academy?

Yes, through an International Enrollment Agreement. Allow 2–3 weeks for processing. Shipping is quoted after enrolment, and customs and duties are paid by the family. Lessons are recorded, so time zones do not affect lessons, but phone help runs on US Central business hours.

Is Abeka Academy worth it?

For Christian families who want structured, teacher-taught lessons and an accredited record at a cost close to a curriculum purchase, many find it good value. For families who want live interaction, a secular curriculum or English-language support, another option may fit better. Watch a sample lesson and use the 30-day guarantee.

What are the alternatives to Abeka Academy?

Oak Meadow (NEASC-accredited, Waldorf-inspired, no live classes), The Keystone School (accredited, priced per course) and, for families in Asia and Oceania, NIJIN GLOBAL ACADEMY (live small-group classes with bilingual support, opening September 2027, not yet accredited). There is more in our guide to why families choose an online international school.

Tuition and admissions details were checked on the official websites on 6 October 2026. Schools revise fees every year — always confirm on the official site before applying.

Choosing calmly: the right fit matters more than the price

Abeka Academy gives Christian families something many want: experienced teachers on video, a complete daily plan and an accredited record, at a price closer to a set of textbooks than to private school tuition. If that matches your family’s faith and your child’s learning style, it is a strong, well-established choice. If your child needs live conversation, help learning English, or a timetable built around Asia and Oceania, you may want to look at other options. Take your time, watch a sample lesson together, and choose what fits your child.
