Why NGA

ABOUT NGA

Rebuilding what
“school” means.

NGA (NIJIN GLOBAL ACADEMY) is an online international school for children aged 6–18 across Asia & Oceania — built without the deviation-score race. Opening September 2027. This page explains, as honestly as we can, what we do, why, and how.

In one sentence

An online school that connects
your child to the world — without ranking them.

Not “a race to get into a good university,” but “learning to love yourself and the world.” Because we have no campus, children learn live with peers from across the region every day — at a fee within reach, from wherever they are.

WHY we drop the deviation score

What needs to change isn’t the child.
It’s the system around them.

Asia is home to some of the most intense exam competition in the world. Inside the race of scores and rankings, countless children are made to feel “I’m not good enough” — and slip away from school, and from themselves. Is that the child’s fault? We don’t think so.

~1Mout-of-school children in Thailand (est.)

*Figures vary by year and definition. What’s common across them: a single yardstick for “ability” is eroding the self-worth of many children. So instead of forcing children to fit the yardstick, we chose to put the yardstick down.

The evidence

This isn’t wishful thinking.
We’ve already proven it in Japan.

NGA grows from NIJIN ACADEMY, one of Japan’s largest alternative schools. Children once labeled “unable to attend school” have rediscovered their energy — and themselves — there. NGA takes that proven model and opens it to the world, with the world itself as the classroom.

HOW it works

Not streamed lectures, not 1-on-1 cramming —
learning through dialogue, online.

8

Classes of eight

The same small group, face to face, every day. Children from many countries mix as equals — there are no “foreign students” here. Culture becomes a lens for seeing the world, not a costume.

💬

Dialogue & bilingual mentors

Not absorbing lectures, but thinking together through questions. Bilingual mentors walk alongside each child and build a psychologically safe space.

🌏

The whole world as classroom

Learning material isn’t only in textbooks — it’s the real societies and lives of each country. Twice-weekly live classes plus projects tackle real problems.

Two kinds of proof

Graduating with both
academic ability and character.

Dropping the deviation score does not mean dropping academics. Globally recognized ability can be clearly proven — and on top of that, we record what tests can’t measure.

01

Proof of ability

Optional Cambridge IGCSE / A-Level / CEFR via accredited UK partner schools — a “common language” universities worldwide can read, supporting progression.

02

Proof of character

Competencies (collaboration, inquiry, perseverance and more) recorded over time — making visible the things a score can never show.

Many pathways

Universities abroad and at home (including returnee admissions), specialist routes, entrepreneurship, creative work. A “good university” is not the only goal.

On fees

Far more within reach
than a traditional international school.

In-person international schools can cost a fortune each year. Because NGA is online with no campus, we can cut that cost dramatically. Sibling discounts are available. We’ll share exact fees first with those on our opening-updates list.

COMPARE the options

“I want my child to have a global education.”
Here are the options, honestly laid out.

Aspect NGA In-person intl. school Distance / streamed Moving abroad
Typical fee Within reach Very high Low–mid High (incl. living)
Location From anywhere Commutable area only From anywhere Relocation needed
Global, diverse peers Daily, across countries High Low High
Small-group dialogue 8 students, dialogue Varies Self-paced / video Varies
Beyond the deviation score At the core Varies Varies Varies
World-standard credentials IGCSE & more Yes Limited Varies

*A comparison of general tendencies. Not better or worse — choose what fits your family.

You’ll likely feel at home if…

  • You value character over grades.
  • You believe individuality grows within diversity.
  • You want communication and humanity nurtured too.
  • “Being different” is a beginning, not a problem.

Another school may suit you better if…

  • One specific elite university is the only goal.
  • You want weekly exam prep maximized.
  • You want daily ranking.

Serious academics? Yes (Cambridge IGCSE / A-Level). Academics as a yardstick of a person’s worth? No.

FAQ

Honest answers
to parents’ real questions.

Can children really build academic ability online?

Yes. Alongside twice-weekly live classes, we offer optional Cambridge IGCSE / A-Level through accredited UK partner schools. Rather than passively watching streams, small-group dialogue turns “I think I get it” into ability you can actually use.

What if we as parents don’t speak English?

That’s fine. Bilingual mentors walk alongside each child, starting with more Japanese and easing into English naturally. No English ability is required at home.

What about pathways and university after graduation?

Children graduate carrying both world-standard ability (IGCSE etc.) and character (competencies) as proof. Universities abroad and at home (including returnee admissions), specialist routes, entrepreneurship, creative work — the path they choose.

Can children make friends and find belonging online?

Yes. With classes of eight and a daily morning circle, children meet the same friends face to face every day. We prioritize a psychologically safe place where children cheer each other on rather than compete.

Can children who’ve struggled with school, or have developmental traits, attend?

Yes. Our parent school, NIJIN ACADEMY, is a proven model where children who found school hard regained their energy. We respect each child’s pace and value learning they “want” to do, not learning they “must” do.

Can we join from abroad, or from within Japan?

Yes. We operate on Asia & Oceania time zones. Families living abroad, and families in Japan who want a global education, are both welcome.

How much are the fees?

Because we’re online with no campus, we plan fees far below in-person international schools (sibling discounts available). We’ll share the exact amount first with those who join our opening-updates list.

How is this different from other online international schools?

It’s neither “streamed material” nor “1-on-1 cramming” — dialogue with peers across countries is the engine of learning. And above all, we put “beyond the deviation score” at the very center of the school.
