Bangkok Patana School Fees (2026–27): Tuition, Entrance Fee, Admissions and Honest Alternatives

Bangkok Patana School fees and review 2026–27

Bangkok Patana School fees for 2026–27 range from THB 515,000 a year in Nursery to THB 1,014,000 in Year 12, with Year 7–9 at THB 842,000 and the IB Diploma years at THB 1,014,000 (Year 12) and THB 749,000 (Year 13, billed for two terms only), according to the school’s official Tuition and Fees page and its School Fees Announcement for Academic Year 2026/27 (checked 1 November 2026). Every student also pays a Capital Assessment Fee of THB 30,000 a year, and a new student pays a THB 5,500 application fee, a one-time entrance fee of THB 250,000 for the first child (THB 200,000 for each further child) and a THB 50,000 refundable deposit. All amounts are in Thai baht, and the school states they “are subject to change”.

If you searched “Bangkok Patana School fees” or “Bangkok Patana tuition in USD”, you are most likely a British, Australian, American or Canadian family moving to Bangkok on a posting, or a family already in Thailand weighing the city’s oldest British international school against NIST, International School Bangkok (ISB) or Shrewsbury. You want the real numbers in one place, what the entrance fee and Capital Assessment Fee mean, what is included (lunch and residential trips, for some years), how admissions and waiting pools work, and whether there is a more affordable or more flexible route. This page answers from the official Bangkok Patana site and fee announcement first, then compares it fairly with nearby schools and with NIJIN GLOBAL ACADEMY — a different kind of option: an online international school for Asia and Oceania that opens in 2027.

TOC

The short answer: who Bangkok Patana School suits — and who it doesn’t

  • Suits: families who want a British education that moves cleanly between the UK and other British international schools. Bangkok Patana follows a modified English National Curriculum up to Year 11, with (I)GCSEs in Years 10 and 11, then the IB Diploma or the IB Career-related Programme in Years 12 and 13.
  • Suits: families who value scale and track record. The school describes itself as Thailand’s original British international school, teaching over 2,200 students aged 2 to 18 from around 60 countries on one large campus in Bang Na, and it is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS).
  • Suits: families who want strong exam outcomes with a broad intake. The official Class of 2026 results list an average IB Diploma score of 36 points, a 99.3% pass rate and 22% of students scoring 40 or above, and the school says its Senior Studies programme is open to any motivated student rather than selected by grades.
  • Suits: younger children still learning English. EAL support starts from Year 1, and EAL is charged for no more than six terms even if support continues.
  • Harder fit: families who need a place at short notice. The admissions page says “many Year groups are currently full” for 2026/27, with new applicants placed in a waiting pool, and no single nationality may exceed 20% of students.
  • Harder fit: families on a short or uncertain posting who would pay the non-refundable THB 250,000 entrance fee themselves, or who need financial aid (scholarships and bursaries are not published on the official site).
  • Harder fit: families living on the far side of Bangkok. The campus is on Sukhumvit 105 (Lasalle Road), and the school’s own bus times run from about 21 to 35 minutes from central districts.

What Bangkok Patana School is

Bangkok Patana School is a not-for-profit, co-educational British international day school in Bang Na, in south-east Bangkok. Its name combines the city and the Thai word for development, patana. The school is owned by the Bangkok Patana School Foundation, whose volunteer board oversees it; the school says it has no shareholders and invests fees in staff, equipment and facilities. In 2026 it is marking its 70-year anniversary. The official About page states that around 85% of its teachers are recruited from the UK or from British international schools, and that almost all operational services, including its own bus fleet and catering with a staff nutritionist, are run in-house.

Learning is organised in the British way: the Foundation Stage (Nursery, Foundation Stage 1 and Foundation Stage 2, ages 2–5), Key Stage 1 (Years 1–2), Key Stage 2 (Years 3–6), Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9), Key Stage 4 ((I)GCSE, Years 10–11) and Senior Studies (IB, Years 12–13). Year groups follow British age cut-offs of 1 September to 31 August, and the school places children outside their age group only in exceptional circumstances. For the wider picture of the city, our guide to international schools in Bangkok sets Bangkok Patana alongside the other large British, American and IB schools families usually shortlist.

Bangkok Patana School fees (2026–27, official)

Bangkok Patana publishes a five-page “School Fees Announcement, Academic Year 2026/27”, linked from its Tuition and Fees page. Every figure below comes from that document or that page, checked 1 November 2026. Third-party listings for the school often show older or mismatched figures, so we use only the official announcement here.

Annual tuition by year group

Tuition is paid termly, invoiced before each term, with a larger first-term instalment. In the two examination years, Year 11 and Year 13, no tuition is charged in Term 3; students are billed external examination fees instead.

Year group (age) Annual tuition 2026–27 Term 1 Term 2 Term 3

EAL fee, Year 1 – Year 9 (if required) THB 105,000 46,100 32,100 26,800

What is included: tuition covers all compulsory Residential Visits for Years 3 to 10 and Year 12, and lunch for all primary students (Nursery to Year 6). The Capital Assessment Fee is billed termly with tuition. If the school decides a child needs English as an Additional Language support, joining the EAL programme “is not optional”; the EAL fee is charged for no more than six terms even if provision continues.

Worked total-cost examples (official numbers only)

One child joining Year 7 (age 11–12), first child in the family. Application THB 5,500 + entrance fee THB 250,000 + tuition THB 842,000 + Capital Assessment Fee THB 30,000 = THB 1,127,500 in year one, plus the THB 50,000 refundable deposit (cash out THB 1,177,500). A round-trip Zone 1A bus (THB 80,100) and set lunch (THB 21,600) would add THB 101,700.

One child joining Year 10 and staying to the IB Diploma (four years). Tuition THB 957,000 + 707,000 + 1,014,000 + 749,000 = THB 3,427,000; Capital Assessment Fee 4 × THB 30,000 = THB 120,000; application and entrance THB 255,500. If 2026–27 fees stayed flat (they usually rise), the four years would total THB 3,802,500, plus the refundable deposit and (I)GCSE and IB exam fees.

Two children starting together in Year 2 and Year 5. Entrance fees THB 250,000 + THB 200,000 = THB 450,000; application fees 2 × THB 5,500 = THB 11,000; tuition THB 749,000 + THB 796,000 = THB 1,545,000; Capital Assessment Fee 2 × THB 30,000 = THB 60,000. Year one: THB 2,066,000, with lunch included for both, plus THB 100,000 in refundable deposits. The tuition discount for larger families starts only with a third child.

In US dollars, for orientation only. The school bills only in Thai baht. At the open.er-api.com mid-market rate of 1 THB = 0.029635 USD (31 October 2026), Nursery tuition of THB 515,000 is about US$15,260, Year 7–9 tuition of THB 842,000 is about US$24,950, Year 12 tuition of THB 1,014,000 is about US$30,050, and the Year 7 first-year total of THB 1,127,500 is about US$33,410. The four-year Year 10–13 example is about US$112,690. Your bank’s rate on the day you pay will differ.

  • Billing: Term 1 invoices were sent 13 May 2026 (due 12 June), Term 2 on 4 November 2026 (due 4 December) and Term 3 on 17 February 2027 (due 19 March). Late payments carry 1% a month.
  • Methods: Thai baht by bank transfer (Kasikornbank), bill payment, cheque, online through the Parents’ Gateway (credit card, PayPal or QR), or credit card instalments with Thai-issued SCB, KBank or Citibank/UOB cards; payers cover bank charges.
  • Notice: one full term’s notice of withdrawal in Terms 2 and 3, half a term’s notice in Term 1. The 2026–27 deadlines are 19 October 2026 (leaving in December), 11 January 2027 (leaving in April) and 19 April 2027 (leaving in June). Late notice costs THB 50,000 per student.

Bangkok Patana School fees vs nearby schools: NIST, ISB and Shrewsbury

Families comparing Bangkok Patana almost always look at three other large, long-established Bangkok schools: NIST International School (full IB, Sukhumvit Soi 15), International School Bangkok (American curriculum with AP and IB, Nichada Thani) and Shrewsbury International School Bangkok (English National Curriculum with A Levels, Riverside and City Campus). Each publishes its 2026–27 fees on its own website. To compare like for like, the table uses the first year for a new student aged 11–12 (British Year 7, US Grade 6) and only official figures.

The arithmetic: NIST THB 956,000 + 6,000 + 2,500 + 265,000 + 60,500 = THB 1,290,000; ISB THB 1,137,000 + 4,700 + 260,000 + 22,000 + 10 = THB 1,423,710; Shrewsbury THB 976,800 + 5,000 + 225,000 = THB 1,206,800. Shrewsbury’s fees include lunch, snacks and books but exclude compulsory residential trips, which Bangkok Patana includes for most year groups, so the gap between those two narrows or widens depending on the year. Bus fees are excluded everywhere because they depend on where you live. Scholarships, discounts and entry requirements

Scholarships and financial aid

Scholarships, bursaries and financial aid are not published on the official site; neither the Tuition and Fees page nor the 2026–27 fee announcement mentions them. What the school does publish are family discounts: tuition is reduced by 5% for a third child, 10% for a fourth and 15% for the fifth and subsequent children, there is a 20% discount on bus fees from the third child, and the entrance fee falls from THB 250,000 to THB 200,000 for second and later children. Among the comparison schools, Shrewsbury Bangkok publishes a Sixth Form scholarship page; check each school’s site directly if aid matters to you. For many relocating families the real “scholarship” is an employer education allowance, so ask HR early whether it covers the entrance fee as well as tuition.

Who can apply

  • Residence: students are considered only if they live in Bangkok with a parent or legal guardian (an appointed guardian only in exceptional circumstances), and non-Thai students must hold a valid non-immigrant visa before starting.
  • Thai nationals: students holding only a Thai passport, or whose parents both hold Thai passports, apply through a separate process considered once a year.
  • Balance: no single nationality may exceed 20% of the student body, and the school weighs gender, nationality and language balance when a year group is near capacity.
  • Criteria: the child’s ability to access the curriculum with the support available, previous school reports, a confidential recommendation from the current school, writing samples, any assessment results, attitude to learning, and whether the school can meet the child’s needs.

Assessments and English

There is no published academic entrance exam, but assessment is part of entry. Non-native or multilingual English speakers are assessed by an EAL specialist at school, by appointment, before a place is confirmed. All Foundation Stage applicants (Nursery, FS1, FS2) are assessed in person for school readiness, with a preliminary online meeting possible for overseas families. Learning support needs must be disclosed with the application, and further assessments may be required. If the school decides a child needs EAL, the programme is compulsory and costs THB 105,000 a year for Years 1–9, for up to six terms.

The steps and the timing

The non-Thai process has five steps: prepare documents (two years of school reports, a recommendation and writing sample sent by the current teacher, passports, birth certificate, photos, and professional translations of anything not in English); submit the online application and fee; review and assessments, subject to places; an admissions decision; and enrolment, when you sign the offer letter and pay the THB 50,000 initial fee payment. Applications for 2027/28 opened on 1 September 2026. If no place is available, the child joins a waiting pool, where the school considers fit, available support, prior connection (siblings, returning students, alumni children), siblings applying together, balance and, last, the date of application.

What the fees buy: school day, curriculum and accreditation

Term dates, transport and time zones

Hours. Start and finish times for the school day are not published on the official site pages we checked; the Admissions Office is open 7.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. in term time. Ask admissions for the current bell times for your child’s year group. Bangkok is on UTC+7 all year with no daylight saving.

2026–27 term dates. The official calendar lists 180 school days. Term 1 runs from 19 August to 18 December 2026 (half term 12–16 October); Term 2 from 11 January to 2 April 2027 (half term 22–26 February); Term 3 from 19 April to 25 June 2027, with a long Songkran break from 5 to 16 April. Public holidays may shift with government announcements.

Getting there. Students arrive by the school’s own bus service, by BTS and school shuttle, or by private transport. Each bus has a monitor who also walks the youngest children to their buildings. The school’s own examples of bus journey times include 21 minutes from Chidlom and Sukhumvit 24, 27 minutes from Emporium (Phrom Phong), 32 minutes from Asok and Sathorn, and 35 minutes from Thonglor and Sukhumvit 23; many routes run against the traffic on tollways. The nearest BTS stations are Bearing and Bangna, and students in Year 8 and up can take the shuttle from Bangna BTS.

Inside school. Primary classes are taught by class teachers with specialist teachers for Music, Art, PE, ICT, Thai culture and Modern Foreign Languages. From Key Stage 1, each year group has a Language Acquisition teacher and English Language Facilitators, and in Key Stages 2 and 3 EAL students receive two hours a week of separate language teaching on top of class support. Key Stage 4 students should expect two to two and a half hours of home learning a night, and the school runs four ECA blocks a year plus dance, football, gymnastics, swimming and tennis academies. If you are curious how a fully online school day compares, our page on how a day at an online international school works walks through one.

Accreditation, curriculum and university recognition

The footer of every official page states that Bangkok Patana School “is a not-for-profit IB world school, accredited by CIS” — the Council of International Schools. The school’s IB status covers both the IB Diploma Programme and the IB Career-related Programme. We relied on the school’s own statement; families who want to confirm the current accreditation term can use the CIS and IB online school directories.

In Years 10 and 11 all students follow a two-year GCSE or IGCSE programme: English, Mathematics, the three sciences and a modern foreign language, plus three options including a humanities subject, chosen from 30 courses. Most students finish with 9 or 10 (I)GCSEs. In Years 12 and 13 most students take the IB Diploma (six subject groups plus Theory of Knowledge, CAS and the Extended Essay) or the IB Career-related Programme, which pairs IB courses with a BTEC Level 3 specialism in areas such as Art & Design, Business or Sport. Students who complete Senior Studies receive the Bangkok Patana School Academic Diploma together with the IB Diploma or IB Courses results.

On outcomes, the official results page reports that 137 students sat the IB Diploma in 2026 with an average of 36 points, a 99.3% pass rate, 22% scoring 40 or more and one perfect 45, and that the first five IBCP students achieved a 90% pass rate. The school also reports that the graduating class of 2026 received 644 university offers from 194 universities in 18 countries, including Oxford, Cambridge and Brown. Every student is assigned a university counsellor from Year 11, more than 200 university representatives visit each year, and the school is an SAT and Cambridge admissions test centre. Because the IB Diploma and (I)GCSEs are recognised by universities in the UK, US, Australia and Asia, credentials earned here travel well.

Reviews and common concerns, answered honestly

Bangkok Patana is one of the first names British and Commonwealth families hear in Bangkok, and the recurring questions are about access, cost and fit rather than quality. Here is what the official site says about each.

“Will we actually get a place?”

It depends on the year group and timing. The admissions page says many year groups are full for 2026/27 and that applications go into a waiting pool; the policies page says some age groups are “regularly oversubscribed”. Applications for 2027/28 opened on 1 September 2026, and the school advises applying early. Waiting pool lengths and acceptance rates are not published, and the date of application is only one of several factors, after fit, support needs, prior connection, siblings and balance.

“Why is the entrance fee so large, and is it refundable?”

The THB 250,000 entrance fee (THB 200,000 for later siblings) is a once-only, non-refundable payment invoiced when a place is offered. It is separate from the THB 50,000 deposit, which is returned when the child leaves with proper notice, and from the THB 50,000 initial fee payment, which is credited against the first tuition bill. For Foundation Stage or Year 1 entry, the school offers a staggered option starting at THB 40,000.

“Our child is still learning English.”

Bangkok Patana supports this from Year 1, with Language Acquisition teachers in each year group and extra discrete EAL lessons in Key Stages 2 and 3. If the school decides your child needs it, EAL is compulsory and costs THB 105,000 a year, capped at six terms of charges. Non-native speakers are assessed by an EAL specialist before a place is confirmed, and the published criteria stress the child’s ability to access the curriculum with the support available — so for an older child who is just beginning English, ask admissions directly what support exists in that year group.

“Is Bang Na too far from where we want to live?”

The campus is in the south-east, off Sukhumvit 105. The school runs its own bus fleet and publishes example journey times of 21–35 minutes from central districts, and round-trip bus fees range from THB 80,100 to THB 120,800 a year by zone. Many families choose housing along the eastern Sukhumvit and Bang Na corridor; if your home is fixed elsewhere, budget for the bus and the commute.

“What if we leave Bangkok mid-year?”

Read the withdrawal rules before you sign. Notice is a full term in Terms 2 and 3 and half a term in Term 1; missing the deadline costs THB 50,000. Fees are refunded only on a half-termly basis, and the entrance fee is never refunded. If a move is possible within a year, check whether your employer pays the fees on its own terms.

Alternatives to Bangkok Patana School worth comparing

NIST International School — a not-for-profit school offering the full IB continuum from Early Years to Year 13 in central Sukhumvit, with 2026–27 tuition of THB 650,200–1,132,800 and a THB 265,000 registration fee; see our NIST fees review.

Shrewsbury International School Bangkok — another British school, on the English National Curriculum with IGCSE and A Levels rather than the IB, on the riverside and a city campus, with fees that include lunch, snacks and books. International School Bangkok is the American option, with AP and IB pathways. NIJIN GLOBAL ACADEMY (NGA) — an online international school for ages 6–18 focused on Asia and Oceania, opening in September 2027 (planned), with a first cohort of 100 students. Classes are small live dialogue groups of about 8; subjects are learned in English with a bilingual (English–Japanese) mentor, English is taught by CEFR level, and there is no academic entrance exam and no English requirement. It can run alongside a local school or as the main school, and it travels with the family if they relocate again — useful for postings that may end sooner than planned. The timetable is built for Asia–Oceania daytime, which fits Thailand. Tuition is not yet published; NGA says it will be far more affordable than a typical international school, with no enrolment, facility or uniform fees, materials included and sibling discounts. The honest limitations: it is not yet open, not yet accredited, has no graduates, and it is not a campus school — families who want the IB Diploma taught on site, residential trips and a large campus with sports academies should choose a school like Bangkok Patana. Free trial classes run monthly from September 2026. NGA is operated by NIJIN Inc. in Japan, whose alternative school NIJIN Academy has more than 1,000 students.

FAQ

How much are Bangkok Patana School fees per year?

For 2026–27, annual tuition is THB 515,000 (Nursery), THB 577,000 (FS1), THB 640,000 (FS2), THB 749,000 (Years 1–2), THB 790,000 (Year 3), THB 796,000 (Years 4–5), THB 811,000 (Year 6), THB 842,000 (Years 7–9), THB 957,000 (Year 10), THB 707,000 (Year 11), THB 1,014,000 (Year 12) and THB 749,000 (Year 13), plus a THB 30,000 Capital Assessment Fee. New students also pay a THB 5,500 application fee, a THB 250,000 entrance fee (THB 200,000 for siblings) and a THB 50,000 refundable deposit.

Is Bangkok Patana School accredited?

Yes. The school states that it is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and is an IB World School. It awards (I)GCSEs in Year 11 and the IB Diploma or IB Career-related Programme results, together with its own Academic Diploma, in Year 13.

Can international students enrol at Bangkok Patana?

Yes — students come from around 60 countries, and no single nationality may exceed 20%. Children must live in Bangkok with a parent or legal guardian, non-Thai students need a valid non-immigrant visa, and non-native English speakers are assessed by an EAL specialist. Thai nationals apply through a separate annual process.

Is Bangkok Patana School worth it?

For families who want a British curriculum through to the IB Diploma, a strong published results record, residential trips and primary lunch included in tuition, and a large campus with sports academies, many find it is — especially when an employer pays. It is harder to justify if you need a place immediately in a full year group, if the non-refundable entrance fee would fall on a short posting, or if you need financial aid, which is not published.

What are the alternatives to Bangkok Patana School?

NIST International School (full IB), Shrewsbury International School Bangkok (British, A Levels) and International School Bangkok (American, AP and IB) are the usual comparisons. For families in Asia and Oceania who want a small bilingual live-online option with no academic entrance exam and no English requirement, NIJIN GLOBAL ACADEMY opens in September 2027 (planned); it is not yet accredited and its tuition is not yet published.

Choosing calmly before a move

Bangkok Patana publishes one of the clearest fee announcements in the city, and the next steps are concrete: confirm your child’s year group from the 1 September age cut-off, email admissions to ask whether that year group has places or a waiting pool, and apply early — 2027/28 applications are already open. Then add up year one honestly: tuition, the Capital Assessment Fee, the application and entrance fees, the refundable deposit, the bus and, from Year 6, a laptop. If your posting is short, your child is still growing into English, or you are waiting for a place, it is worth keeping one flexible option in view as well; our curriculum and timetable page shows how NGA’s live classes sit in a Bangkok day.

Tuition and admissions details were checked on the official websites on 1 November 2026. Schools revise fees every year — always confirm on the official site before applying.
