Dwight Global vs Stanford OHS: IB, Class Size, Time Zones and Tuition Compared

Key visual comparing Dwight Global and Stanford Online High School on the IB, class size and time zones

Dwight Global vs Stanford OHS is one of the most common comparisons for families looking at a top online high school. Dwight Global Online School and Stanford Online High School (Stanford OHS) come up together in almost every search for a top online high school. Both teach in small live seminars, both accept students from around the world, and both cost tens of thousands of dollars a year. Read the official pages closely, though, and they split on three things that matter to a family outside the US: which qualification your child can earn, how many students sit in each class, and what time the classes fall in your time zone.

This comparison of Dwight Global vs Stanford OHS uses only 2026-27 information from the two schools’ official websites. Where we give yen, we use the rate of 9 October 2026 (US$1 ≈ ¥158).

Dwight Global vs Stanford OHS: the basics

Dwight Global is the online campus of Dwight School, a private school in New York. It serves grades 6–12 and reports 421 students from 34 countries. Graduates receive the Dwight Global Diploma, issued by Dwight School.

Stanford OHS is an independent online middle and high school at Stanford University. It serves grades 7–12 and reports about 1,090 students from 55 countries. To receive the Stanford OHS diploma, students must be full-time for their final two years. The school also states plainly that it is not a feeder school for Stanford University.

Both accept international students, and because study is fully online, no student visa is involved. Stanford OHS does not require TOEFL or IELTS scores, and does not accept them.

Tuition: $43,600 at Dwight Global, $31,900 at Stanford OHS

Here are the 2026-27 fees.

Diagram of 2026-27 tuition: Dwight Global 43,600 dollars a year for grades 6 to 12, Stanford Online High School 31,900 dollars a year full-time, and 6,380 dollars for a single Stanford OHS course

Dwight Global charges $43,600 a year for every grade from 6 to 12 (about ¥6.9 million). Materials, lab supplies, some IB courses and late enrolment after the first trimester carry extra charges, but the amounts are not published, and neither are part-time or single-course prices.

Stanford OHS charges $31,900 full-time (about ¥5.05 million), $19,140 part-time and $6,380 for a single course. The application fee is $100, with a waiver available, and course materials run from about $30 to $1,300. International students pay the same tuition as US students.

Both schools offer need-based financial aid only, with no merit scholarships. Stanford OHS reports $2.5 million awarded to 145 students in 2025-26, most covering 75–100% of tuition. Dwight Global’s aid is open to international families and applies to tuition only.

Teaching model and class size: an average of 6 vs 12

Dwight Global uses a flipped model: students prepare with recorded lessons and materials, then discuss in live seminars. The school reports an average class of six and a maximum of 15, and every live class is recorded. It does not publish the split between live and independent work.

Stanford OHS runs university-style seminars, most of which meet twice a week, Monday–Wednesday or Tuesday–Thursday (three times for languages), for about 2.5 hours of live class per course per week. There are no classes on Fridays. Its FAQ gives an average class of 12 and a maximum of 17; the 2026-27 school profile gives an average of 13.

Qualifications: choose Dwight Global for the IB Diploma

This is the biggest difference. Dwight Global offers the full IB Diploma online in grades 11–12; Dwight describes itself as one of only seven schools in the world able to do so. It also offers 21 AP courses, out of 148 courses in all.

Stanford OHS does not offer the IB. In fall 2024 it replaced all of its AP courses with its own advanced courses, up to university level,, alongside a philosophy core that runs through every year (141 courses in all). Students can still sit AP exams externally.

So the split is clear: the IB Diploma points to Dwight Global; deep university-level coursework points to Stanford OHS. Both are accredited. Dwight Global holds Cognia accreditation; Stanford OHS is accredited by WASC (2010) and CAIS (2019), both renewed in 2025. If you want to check what each accreditation means, see our guide to checking an online school’s accreditation.

What time are classes in Asia?

For families in Japan or elsewhere in Asia, this shapes daily life more than anything else.

Stanford OHS schedules most classes between 7:15 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Pacific Time, and international students are timetabled within 6:00 a.m.–10:30 p.m. local time. In Japan, that puts classes roughly between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m. (around 2 p.m. in winter). Combining full-time study with a local day school is very hard; in practice, many weekday mornings go to Stanford OHS classes.

Dwight Global says students can choose between early-morning and evening sections but does not publish specific times. New York is 13 hours behind Japan during US daylight saving time and 14 hours behind otherwise. Ask the school for actual section times in your time zone before applying.

If a timetable built for Asian daytime, with small groups that talk through ideas in English, matters more to you than an American schedule, compare NGA’s approach to learning as well.

Reading reviews and outcomes

Reviews of online schools depend heavily on the grade, the section times and the country a student studied from. Check three things against the official pages:

  • How outcomes are reported: Dwight Global publishes a list of college acceptances and matriculations, without test scores. Stanford OHS publishes its 2024–2026 acceptance list and, for the class of 2026, a middle-50% SAT range of 1470–1560.
  • Acceptance rates: neither school publishes one. Stanford OHS notes that it cannot admit every qualified applicant.
  • Deadlines: Stanford OHS admits for fall; for 2027-28 the application deadline is 7 January 2027 (Pacific Time), with decisions in mid-March. Dwight Global opened 2027-28 applications on 1 October 2026 and does not publish a deadline.

Three questions for choosing between Dwight Global and Stanford OHS: whether you need the IB Diploma, whether your family can live with the class times, and whether tuition and aid add up

Where NIJIN GLOBAL ACADEMY fits

NIJIN GLOBAL ACADEMY (NGA) is an online international school for ages 6–18 focused on Asia and Oceania, opening in September 2027 (planned). It is operated by NIJIN Inc., which runs learning programmes in Japan, including NIJIN Academy for children who do not attend school, and has supported more than 1,000 children. Its model is live classes in small groups of about eight, subjects taught in English with support from a bilingual English–Japanese mentor, a timetable built around Asia–Oceania daytime, and admission that is not based on test-score rankings.

The honest limits: NGA is not yet open, not yet accredited and has no graduates, and tuition has not been published. It offers neither the IB Diploma nor university-level coursework like Stanford OHS, and it cannot replace either school’s track record. Where it may help is earlier: for a family in Asia that wants a child to build the habit of thinking and speaking in English from primary school, in daytime hours, before aiming at a school like Dwight Global or Stanford OHS for high school.

FAQ

Is Dwight Global more expensive than Stanford OHS?

Yes, for full-time study: $43,600 a year at Dwight Global against $31,900 at Stanford OHS (2026-27). Stanford OHS also sells single courses from $6,380; Dwight Global does not publish single-course prices.

Does Stanford OHS offer the IB or AP?

Neither. Stanford OHS does not offer the IB, and it replaced all AP courses with its own advanced courses in fall 2024. Students can still take AP exams externally.

Can international students apply to both?

Yes. Both accept students worldwide. Stanford OHS charges international students the same tuition and does not ask for English test scores. Check your own country’s compulsory schooling rules before enrolling a younger child.

Does Stanford OHS help with admission to Stanford University?

The school says it is not a feeder school for Stanford University. It publishes where graduates were admitted, but describes no admissions link to the university.

Match the school to your timetable and your goal

Dwight Global and Stanford OHS are both established schools that families around the world choose. The useful comparison is not which is more prestigious, but three practical questions: do you need the IB Diploma, can your family live with the class times, and do tuition and aid add up? Answer those, and you will know which official pages to read next.

NIJIN GLOBAL ACADEMY opens in September 2027 (planned), with pre-opening trial classes in April–May 2027. We will share the curriculum and timetable by email as soon as they are confirmed.

You do not have to decide today. Start by sketching your child’s weekday and marking where an English-language class could realistically fit. That picture will tell you more than any ranking.
